Sunday in the Octave of Christmas

Officiant – Debbi Toole

Homilist – Walter Stewart

 We acknowledge that we gather on the territories of the Coast Salish peoples,
the SENĆOŦEN & HUL'Q'UMI'NUM'-speaking people, where we, the settler Church,
now live, work, worship, & play.

We seek a new relationship with the first peoples here, one based in honour and respect.

Officiant:      Lord, open our lips,

People:          And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Officiant:      O God, make speed to save us.

People:         O Lord, make haste to help us.

Officiant:
My sisters and brothers in Christ,

in this season when we celebrate the birth of Jesus,

let it be our duty and delight to hear once more the message of the angels

and go in heart and mind to Bethlehem to see the Son of God lying in a manger.

Blessed are you, O Christ, Son of God,

you were before time began and came into the world to save us.

Blessed are you, Sun of righteousness;

you shine with the Father’s love and illumine the whole universe.

Blessed are you, Son of Mary;

born a child, you shared our humanity.

All:        Let heaven and earth shout their praise.

Officiant:      With all the voices of heaven  we celebrate the coming of our Saviour.

All:        Let heaven and earth shout their praise.

Officiant:      With all the creatures on earth we sing and dance at his birth.

All:        Praise and honour and glory to you, O Lord most high.

Officiant:      Praise ye the Lord

All:        The Lord’s Name Be Praised

Psalm 148

All:  Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be for ever.   Amen.

Isaiah 63. 7-9

Hebrews 2. 10-18

Matthew 2. 13–23

Homily, Walter Stewart

The Shema

All:        Hear, O Israel,

The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Love the Lord your God

with all your heart,

with all your soul,

with all your mind,

and with all your strength.

This is the first and the great commandment.

The second is like it:

Love your neighbour as yourself.

There is no commandment greater than these.

The Collect of the Day

Officiant:      Almighty God,

you have shed upon us the new light of your incarnate Word.

May this light, enkindled in our hearts, shine forth in our lives;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Officiant: Let us also pray for the forgiveness of our sins,

All:        Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us,

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your name. Amen.

Officiant:      Almighty God have mercy upon us,

pardon and deliver us from all our sins,

confirm and strengthen us in all goodness,

and keep us in eternal life;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Officiant:      The Peace of the Lord Be With Us All

All:               And also with you

Prayer Over the Gifts

Officiant:      Let us Pray,

All:        God of light, in the birth of your Son we see your glory.
May we who share in this mystery grow daily in your love.
This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord.

Officiant:      Let us Bless the Lord

People:         Thanks be to God

Officiant:      Let Us Go Forth in Peace

All:        Thanks Be to God
