Happy Thanksgiving and Happy 30th Anniversary

Please celebrate with us at a special Anniversary Thanksgiving Service this Sunday at 10:30am. Please bring family and friends. All are welcome.

On Thursday this week the Ven Eric Partridge and the Rev Jenny Replogle joined the four wardens (Ruth, Simon, Sally and Gloria) for a frank and helpful discussion around our steps moving forward. Eric is the Executive Archdeacon of the Diocese (second to the Bishop) and Jenny is the new priest in charge of Parishes in transition. After discussion our next step is to decide whether we will post for a full or part time incumbent. There are many things to consider in this decision, including budget, housing, roles and responsibilities, experience and sustainability.

On Sunday October 20th we will hold a special service which will include both a presentation on our current financial situation and steps moving forward and an open discussion on what we see as our future and what we can sustainably support. We will also discuss the role of the Diocese in these decisions and the process of next steps.

There are difficult questions to be considered.

  1. What things are important to us as a community?
  2. What things can we change?
  3. What is our role in the broader community, the country and the world? How can we contribute to the health and wellbeing of our island home?
  4. What would we expect of an incumbent and how are we willing to support this?
  5. How much can we afford to pay a new incumbent, not just for this year, but a sustainable yearly amount for the next five years?

Stewardship campaigns are not a natural or comfortable part of the culture for us, but they are both required yearly by the diocese and more important required for long term stability.

I encourage all members to commit to being present and participating. I recognize that speaking one’s truth in a public forum is difficult for some. We will have mechanisms available which will allow all voices to be heard.

Please note this is your first but not last opportunity to provide input and opinions. You may also send written input for consideration to me (seltnerhome@gmail.com copy to wardens@saltspringanglican.ca). Please also feel free to talk to any of the wardens who will be happy to pass on your thoughts.

Please add October 20th to your calendar.

Ruth Pickett Seltner, Bishop's Warden
