How do we respond? Are we called to do something unique as Anglicans, as Christians? What is the impact of the Climate Crisis on our faith? Can or does our faith have an impact on the Climate Crisis?

We’ll begin exploring these questions by watching a new, award-winning NFB film: The Magnitude of All Things after church on Sunday Jan 16, 11:30 am.

The following Wednesday, Jan 19, 7:00 pm on Zoom John Metzger will interview Rev Harold Munn on whether simply considering our faith in light of the Climate Crisis is enough. What if we want to be in action, not just sitting around talking about it?

The series will continue as a Zoom group exploring how we as Christians – and as a parish and individuals right here on Salt Spring Island – can respond to the “climate crisis”.  What in fact does our faith offer us?  Is our faith even relevant?  What does our faith ask of us? Harold will facilitate a discussion over 5 weeks in January and February with the following topics:

Week 1: An open discussion where we have an opportunity to share our individual concerns, understandings and desires regarding the climate crisis.

Week 2:  Why is there a “climate emergency or crisis” rather than a “climate concern”?  We’ll seek to introduce and reach a common understanding of some of the basic technical matters – for example, what do we mean by mitigation, adaptation, resilience, and sustainability.

Week 3: Why our faith is foundational to action, and the role of prayer.

Week 4: Actions.  What can you and I as individuals and as part of our island community do?

Week 5: Decisions on actions and planning.  Establishing a working group within our parish to continue the process of educating ourselves and interacting with each other and our community in realistic actions.

We’re excited to present this series as a response to our new Parish Goal, approved at the Special Vestry in November.
