O God, our times are in your hand:
Look with favour, we pray, on your servants, Tony, as he begins another year. Grant that he may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen his trust in your goodness all the days of his life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WE REMEMBER the late Pat Herchmer who died 11 years ago on Sep 15 at age 98.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.  [Deut. 33.27]

Please let us know if you wish any blessings or would like prayers for someone special to be added in the Prayers of the People for next Sunday by emailing The deadline is Tuesday morning before the coming Sunday. Thanks!

Some sermons by The Rev. Gyllian Davies may be found here or by request.

Lord of all life,
your care is known through the sparrow and the hairs of our head:
remind us of your goodness in creation and our place within it
that our voice may resound with every creature
in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea
proclaiming honour and glory to the Lamb,
through Jesus Christ who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
one God now and forever. Amen.

Lord, through your earthly presence
you proclaimed the year of the Lord’s coming:
help us to be faithful to the restoration of liberty to land and people
so that your glory may shine forth in all the earth,
through Jesus Christ who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
one God now and forever. Amen.

Before watching the service, we invite you to read the lectionary first.  The links below are the actual texts; you can use your favourite Bible or read the texts right here:
Leviticus 25:8-24
Psalm 85
James 5:1-8
Luke 4:16-21

Let us pray for the revealing of the reign of God in the world, now and always.

In the beginning, God was.
Here and now, God is.
In the future, God will be.

Please respond to God giver of life with:  Hear our prayer

Loving Father, who through your Son has given us His Church as a community of faith, hope and love, to carry out your work and make disciples of all nations, give her the desire and the strength to do what pleases you in building your Kingdom here on earth.

In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the people of the Anglican Church of Tanzania and Dr Maimbo Mndolwa, their archbishop.
In the Anglican Church of Canada, we pray for our Primate, Linda Nicholls, for our National Indigenous Archbishop, Mark MacDonald, and for the clergy and people of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon, and Lynne McNaughton, the Metropolitan.
In our Ecclesiastical Province, we pray for the people of the Diocese of Caledonia and David Lehmann, their bishop.
In our Diocese, we pray for Anna, our bishop, and for the people of St. Philip in Oak Bay and Christopher Page, their priest.
And on our Island, we pray for the people of the Community Gospel Chapel and Dustin Little, their interim pastor.
In our own parish we pray for Gyllian, our priest and for the work of the Mission and Outreach Committee. We pray for the households of Elaine &  Tim Hunt, The Rev. Elaina Hyde, Joyce James, David Jardine, and Sandi Johnson.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Creator of earth, sea, and sky, kindle the fire of your Spirit within us that we may be bold to heal and defend the earth, and pour your blessing upon all who work for the good of the planet.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Breath of life, receive our thanks for the beauty of our local area and all who dwell in it, and grant us the wisdom and will to conserve it.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Source of life, heal and redeem the wounds of your creation, and visit the places and people who suffer from our indifference, neglect, and greed.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Lover of all you have made, we thank you for the wondrous diversity of your creatures, and we pray for their well-being.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Author of the book of nature, receive our gratitude for places of restoration and healing, and continue to bless those places that feed our lives and spirits.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Wise Creator, whose works are full of mystery, give us wonder and appreciation for your creatures with whom we find ourselves in conflict.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Giver of all good gifts, awaken us daily to our dependence upon your bounty, and make us always thankful for the abundance of your blessings.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Divine Physician, heal our communities, especially those where neglect, greed, or violence inflict suffering upon people and other creatures.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Comforter of all the earth, sustain the people of this parish and their friends and family who desire or need your presence and help. We also pray for: Kathy Darling; Sam and Mary Balden; Tony and Pam Brentnall; Sharon, niece of Helen and Tony Bruce; Ron Dyck, Nancy Holcroft; Colin, son of Joyce James; Mark MacDonald & Virginia Sha Lynn; Michael Overholt;  Al and Rita Robertson; Malorey and Wanda Stewart; and Nancy Wigen.
God, Giver of life, Hear our prayer.

Rock and refuge of all your creatures, receive into everlasting mercy all those who have died.

Let us say together:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

THE PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION  -  Diocese of Islands and Inlets
Jesus, we believe that you are truly present in the eucharistic meal.
We love you above all else,
and long to receive you in the sharing of this sacrament.
Help us to be aware of your presence with us in spirit, particularly
at this time
when we are unable to receive you in this sacred meal.
We thank you for your promise that you are with us always,
and that with you at the centre we are united wholly to you,
each other, and the world in which we live.

We pray this in your holy name. Amen.

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.

BLESSING  -  Henri-Frédéric Amiel
We have far to go and not much time
to gladden the hearts of those who walk this way with us
So be swift to love and make haste to be kind.
And the blessing of God,
Bright Flame of Life
Be with you and remain with you always.

Go to be a blessing in the world
Thanks be to God.
