*PARISH CHRISTMAS COFFEE/TEA GATHERING* on Zoom - MARK THE DATE!
Sunday, December 20th, 2020
After the e-Service @ 10:45AM
Let us gather together after the e-Service on Sunday, December 20th at 10:45 to wish each other Christmas Greetings. We will gather as an entire parish for a few minutes and then break into small groups for conversation. We won’t take more than 20 minutes, but it will give us a chance to connect with each other in these strange times.
If you haven’t been using Zoom, it’s easy. All you need do is go to www.zoom.us. On the right hand side of the screen at the top you will see Sign Up Its Free. That will load the application on to your computer. A day or two before we will send you a Zoom link by email. You need only click on that link just before the appointed time and you will be connected. If you haven’t used Zoom before and would like a dry run, call Walter Stewart at 250-930-4334 or email him at [email protected] and he’ll arrange a rehearsal for you.
We know that a number of people from various locations have been joining us in our e-service. We would be delighted if you would join for this coffee/tea gathering on Zoom, so that we can meet you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS to Margaret Mather (Dec 15).
O God, our times are in your hand:
Look with favour, we pray, on your servant, Margaret, as she begins another year.
Grant that she may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen her trust in your goodness
all the days of her life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
CONGRATULATIONS to Bill & Lolla Devindisch in celebrating their 36th Wedding Anniversary on Dec 16.
By the power of your Holy Spirit, pour out the abundance of your blessing upon this man and this woman. Defend them from every enemy. Lead them into all peace. Let their love for each other be a seal upon their hearts, a mantle about their shoulders, and a crown upon their foreheads. Bless them in their work and in their companionship; in their sleeping and in their waking; in their joys and in their sorrows; in their life and in their death. Finally, in your mercy, bring them to that table where your saints feast for ever in your heavenly home; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
WE REMEMBER the late Dorothy Antonelli who died 11 years ago on Dec 13 at age 83, Kay Magee who died 8 years ago on Dec 14, Trish Maddison who died 5 years ago on Dec 15 at age 83, Brian Threadkell who died 2 years ago on Dec 15 at age 64, and Mona Jones who died 10 years ago on Dec 19 at age 91.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. [Deut. 33.27]
WELCOME & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
GATHERING OF THE COMMUNITY
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.
LIGHTING THE ADVENT WREATH CANDLE
Let us pray.
Uncontainable, irrepressible, bubbling up in an explosion of energy.
What the weary long for, what our children often embody,
what makes the Divine smile – joy.
It cannot be paid for, but is a priceless treasure.
As we hope for your arrival, as we pray for peace in your living,
as we wait and watch and wonder how you might reveal yourself to us,
God give us joy in your Advent.
Light two purple candles and then the pink candle.
Joy is not a commodity that can be bought or sold, but lives deep in the human spirit.
Help us to hear that truth and believe it. Let go of what our consumer culture says
will bring us happiness – money, success, a scramble to the top that leaves us flat.
If we have robbed others of what they need in our clamour and quest
for more than our fair share, forgive us.
Help us hear the call of John the Baptist to turn around and begin again.
God of love, we were made in joy. May we live that way.
We light a candle for joy. May it light the way.
COLLECT FOR PURITY
To you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
COLLECT FOR ADVENT III - Church of England
God for whom we watch and wait,
you sent John the Baptist to prepare the way of your Son:
give us courage to speak the truth,
to hunger for justice,
and to suffer for the cause of right,
with Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Before watching the service, we invite you to read the lectionary first. The links below are the actual texts; you can use your favourite Bible or read the texts right here:
Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
John 1:6-8, 19-28
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We believe in God, Creator of all:
The two-legged, the four-legged, the winged ones,
and those that crawl upon the earth
and swim in the waters.
We believe in God, One Who Walked with us:
Our Brother Jesus born in humility,
who lived and died for us and
who will come again to bring us to glory.
We believe in God, Spirit with us:
Ever present and ever guiding,
upholding us and showing us the principles to live by.
We hear God’s voice through the prophets.
Creator, One Who Walked with us, Spirit with us, Holy One:
We are named in the waters of baptism as your own,
all of us related, all of us your children.
We watch for signs of your homecoming
and thank you for this sacred circle of life. Amen.

God of Love,
Hear our prayer.
CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION
The grace-filled shadows of Advent offer us the opportunity
to explore our human complexities through the lens of God's saving love.
Trusting in God's promises let us confess our sins:
Jesus, forgive us our sins.
Forgive the sins we can remember and the sins we have forgotten.
Forgive the wrongs we have done and the good we have failed to do.
Forgive the times when we have been weak in the face of temptation,
and those when we have been stubborn in the face of correction.
Forgive the times when we have been overly proud,
and those when we have failed to boast of your works.
Forgive the harsh judgments we have made,
and the undue leniency we have shown.
Forgive the lies we have told and the truths we have avoided.
Forgive us the pain we have caused,
and the over-indulgence we have practiced.
Jesus have mercy on us, and make us whole.
May the God of all healing and forgiveness draw you close,
pardon and cleanse you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and show you the glory of the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Go forth into the world in peace;
be of good courage;
hold fast to that which is good;
render to no one evil for evil;
strengthen the fainthearted;
support the weak;
help the afflicted;
love and serve God
rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit;
and the blessing of God, Source of all being,
eternal Word and Holy Spirit,
be with you this day and always. Amen.
Go in peace to be God’s justice in the world.
Thanks be to God.
