O God, our times are in your hand:
Look with favour, we pray, on your servant, Ann, as she begins another year.
Grant that she may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen her trust in your goodness
all the days of her life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

WE REMEMBER the late Stanley Thiele who died 19 years ago on Jan 10 at age 80, Joan Nicholson who died 4 years ago on Jan 10 at age 86, and John Mills who died 5 years ago on Jan 16 at age 85.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.  [Deut. 33.27]

Please let us know if you wish any blessings for next Sunday by emailing [email protected]  Thanks!

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.

Almighty God,
To you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

COLLECT OF THE DAY     - Evangelical Lutheran Worship (2006) alt.
O God the creator of all,
at his baptism you proclaimed Jesus your beloved
and anointed him with the Holy Spirit.
Make us faithful to our calling to be your daughters and sons,
and empower us with your Spirit,
through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord.   Amen.

Before watching the service, we invite you to read the lectionary first.  The links below are the actual texts; you can use your favourite Bible or read the texts right here:
Genesis 1:1-5
Psalm 29
Acts 19:1-7
Mark 1:4-11

We believe in God, Creator of all:
The two-legged, the four-legged, the winged ones,
and those that crawl upon the earth
and swim in the waters.

We believe in God, One Who Walked with us:
Our Brother Jesus born in humility,
who lived and died for us and
who will come again to bring us to glory.

We believe in God, Spirit with us:
Ever present and ever guiding,
upholding us and showing us the principles to live by.
We hear God’s voice through the prophets.

Creator, One Who Walked with us, Spirit with us, Holy One:
We are named in the waters of baptism as your own,
all of us related, all of us your children.
We watch for signs of your homecoming
and thank you for this sacred circle of life.  Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE    - Morning & Evening Prayer for Advent, Christmas & Epiphany, ACA, 2014
From the rising of the sun to its setting let us pray to the Giver of light.

May all your people throughout the world worship in spirit and in truth:
In our own parish, we pray this week especially for the households of Jim and Joan Warren,
Ralf Waters, Simon and Janet Wheeler, Caroline Whereatt and Brad White
Giver of light, shine upon all you have made.

May the church discover that unity which is your will:
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the people of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.
In the Anglican Church of Canada, we pray for our Primate, Linda Nicholls, for our National Indigenous Archbishop, Mark MacDonald, and for the staff of Global Relations and Dr. Andrea Mann, their Director; Public Witness for Social and Ecological Justice and Ryan Weston, the Lead Animator.
In our Ecclesiastical Province, we pray for the people of the Diocese of Caledonia and David Lehmann, their bishop.
In our Diocese, we pray for Anna, our bishop-elect, Ansley, the diocesan administrator, and for the people of St. Anne & St. Edmund in Parksville & Church of the Good Shepherd in Lasqueti Island and Andrew Twiddy & Christine Muise, their priests.
And on our Island, we pray for the people of Our Lady of Grace and St. Paul's Historic churches and Father Scott Whittemore, their priest.
Giver of light, shine upon all you have made.

May the nations of the earth seek after the ways that make for peace:
Giver of light, shine upon all you have made.

May the whole creation, groaning in travail,
be set free to enjoy the glorious liberty of the children of God:
During these challenging times, we pray for all those who are suffering
the many adverse effects of this pandemic, both physical and mental,
those suffering from grief, depression, anxiety and all forms of
anguish. Holy Father, we pray that your Spirit can be with these
people and fill them with hope for a kinder future.

In our parish we pray for; Michael Overholt, Tony and Pam Brentnall,
Betty Rothwell, Joan and Jim Warren, Al and Rita Robertson, Mark
MacDonald and Virginia Sha Lynn, his wife, Sue, Ruth and Louis
Pepin, Michael Pidgeon and Richard Stetson and Margaret
Giver of light, shine upon all you have made.

May all who with Christ have entered the shadow of death rest in
peace and rise in glory:
Giver of light, shine upon all you have made.

Let us join our voices together in the prayer Jesus taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and
ever.  Amen.

The grace-filled shadows of Advent offer us the opportunity
to explore our human complexities through the lens of God's saving love.
Trusting in God's promises let us confess our sins:

Jesus, forgive us our sins.
Forgive the sins we can remember and the sins we have forgotten.
Forgive the wrongs we have done and the good we have failed to do.
Forgive the times when we have been weak in the face of temptation,
and those when we have been stubborn in the face of correction.
Forgive the times when we have been overly proud,
and those when we have failed to boast of your works.
Forgive the harsh judgments we have made,
and the undue leniency we have shown.
Forgive the lies we have told and the truths we have avoided.
Forgive us the pain we have caused,
and the over-indulgence we have practiced.
Jesus have mercy on us, and make us whole.

May the God of all healing and forgiveness draw you close,
pardon and cleanse you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and show you the glory of the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever.  Amen.

BLESSING     -  The Church of England
May God, who in Christ gives us a spring of water
welling up to eternal life,
perfect in you the image of his glory;
and the blessing of God,
Source of all being,
eternal Word and Holy Spirit,
be with you this day and always.  Amen.

DISMISSAL     -  The Church of England
The Lord says,
‘Go into all the world and make disciples of all the nations.’
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ.  Amen.
