HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS to John McCaw (Aug 1), David Phillips (Aug 1), Richard Stetson (Aug 2), Noreen Davies (90 years on Aug 6), and Marjorie Pearcy (93 years on Aug 6).
O God, our times are in your hand:
Look with favour, we pray, on your servants, John, David, Richard, Noreen, and Marjorie, as they begin another year. Grant that they may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen their trust in your goodness all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WE REMEMBER the late Gale Hingston who died last year on Aug 4 and Ronald Holcroft who died 6 years ago on Aug 4.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.  [Deut. 33.27]

Please let us know if you wish any blessings or would like prayers for someone special to be added in the Prayers of the People for next Sunday by emailing info@saltspringanglican.ca. The deadline is Tuesday morning before the coming Sunday. Thanks!

Almighty God,
To you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

COLLECT OF THE DAY  -  Prayers for an Inclusive Church (2009) alt.
God of Moses,
who rained down bread on Israel’s wandering people:
lead us to the food that never leaves us craving,
but fills our whole humanity with life enough for all;
through Jesus Christ, the true bread of heaven. Amen.

As we pray together please respond to ‘Holy Spirit’ with the words Help Us.

Loving God, We ask for the gift of your Holy Spirit to help us pray as we ought.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

We ask for the energy and vision of your Spirit for those who are tiring in the battle against injustice and oppression: for those exhausted by the struggle with poverty and hunger.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

We ask for the hope and comfort of your Spirit for those whose lives are overshadowed by illness or pain; for those whose lives are darkened by sorrow or bereavement.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

We ask for the peace and joy of your Spirit for those living in the shadow of war and violence; for those eaten up by guilt and anxiety and whose Christian life has become hard and dry.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

We ask for the guidance and strength of your Spirit for those uncertain how to use their time, talents and gifts; for those tempted to do what is wrong.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

We ask for the love and courage of your Spirit for those reaching out to comfort the distressed; for those reaching out to others with the Good News of Christ.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

We ask your prayers for the Parish Renewal Task Force, seeking our way to embody the love of Christ on Salt Spring Island as we emerge from the pandemic into this new world.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the people of the Church of the Province of South East Asia and Melter Jiki Tais, their archbishop.

In our Diocese, we pray for Anna, our bishop, and for the people of the Parish of Pender & Saturna Islands and Ellen Willingham, their priest.

Holy Spirit: Help Us

Loving God, We ask for the assurance of your Spirit to know your presence with us in our daily lives: in our relationships; in our work and service; in our worship; in our times of joy and pain.
Holy Spirit: Help Us.

God of power and mercy, by raising your Son you confirmed your promise of life to the world. Send us out as your heralds of hope. We ask this through Christ our Lord as we pray in the words he taught us
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.

THE PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION  -  Diocese of Islands and Inlets
Jesus, we believe that you are truly present in the eucharistic meal.
We love you above all else,
and long to receive you in the sharing of this sacrament.
Help us to be aware of your presence with us in spirit,
particularly at this time
when we are unable to receive you in this sacred meal.
We thank you for your promise that you are with us always,
and that with you at the centre we are united wholly
to you, each other, and the world in which we live.
We pray this in your holy name. Amen.

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace
And the blessing of God,
Creator, Healer, Bright Flame of Life
Be with you and remain with you always. Amen.

Go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit.
Thanks be to God.
