HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS to Tony Bruce (Sep 17) and Lynne Fraser (Sep 25).
O God, our times are in your hand:
Look with favour, we pray, on your servants, Tony and Lynne, as they begin another year. Grant that they may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen their trust in your goodness all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WE REMEMBER, the late Marsh Antonelli who died 15 years ago on Sep 19 at age 82, and the late Connor James Elwell who died 3 years ago on Sep 21 at age 23.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
[Deut. 33.27]

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.

Collect for Purity
Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open
all desires known
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
that we may perfectly love you
and worthily magnify your love
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Collect of the Day - Revised Common Lectionary Prayers (2002) alt.
O God
from your providing hand
even the dissatisfied and grumbling
receive what they need for their lives.
Teach us your ways of justice
and lead us to practise your generosity,
so that we may live a life worthy of the gospel
made known through your Son
Jesus Christ, our Saviour.  Amen.

Affirmation of Faith: A Celtic Creed - Iona Community p 22
We believe in God above us,
maker and sustainer of all life,
of sun and moon,
of water and earth,
of male and female.

We believe in God beside us,
Jesus Christ, the word made flesh,
born of a woman, servant of the poor,
tortured and nailed to a tree.
A man who experienced sorrow, he died forsaken.
He descended into the earth to the place of death.
On the third day he rose from the tomb.
He ascended into heaven, to be everywhere present,
and His kingdom will come on earth.

We believe in God within us,
the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire,
life-giving breath of the Church,
Spirit of healing and forgiveness,
source of resurrection and of eternal life. Amen.

Prayers of the People
In this Season of Creation we pray for the world and for ourselves.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer
, we pray for the people of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Justin Badi Arama, their bishop.
In the Anglican Church of Canada, we pray for our Primate, Linda Nicholls, for our National Indigenous Archbishop, Mark MacDonald, and for the clergy and people of the Provincial Synod of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon.
In our Ecclesiastical Province, we pray for the people of the Diocese of Caledonia and David Lehmann, their bishop.
In our Diocese, we pray for Logan, our Bishop, Ansley, our diocesan administrator, and for the people of St. Mary the Virgin in Oak Bay and Craig Hiebert & Dyan Davison, their priests.
And on our Island, we pray for the people of Our Lady of Grace and St. Paul's Historic churches and Father Scott Whittemore, their priest.
In our own Parish, we pray this week for the households of Carolyn Evans, Lynne & Mark Fraser, Liz Gilbert, Sandy Gordon and Keith & Sandi Green.

Let us pray for the revealing of the reign of God in the world, now & always:  Creator of earth, sea, and sky, kindle the fire of your Spirit within us that we may be bold to heal and defend the earth around us, and pour your blessing upon the people and organizations working everywhere for the good of the planet.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Light and source of life, heal and redeem the wounds of your creation, and visit the places and people who suffer from our indifference, neglect, and greed.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Giver of all good gifts, awaken us daily to our dependence upon your generosity, and make us always thankful for the abundance of your blessings, especially for the birthday of Tony Bruce.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Joy of human hearts, heal our human communities, especially those where your word is not heard, or where neglect, violence, greed, and warfare increase the suffering and need of people and other creatures.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Comforter of all the earth, sustain the people of this congregation who desire or need your presence and help especially Michael Overholt, Tony & Pam Brentnall, Bob & Connie Wray, Bob Brawn & Bev Unsworth, Betty Rothwell, Joan & Jim Warren, Al & Rita Robertson, Mark MacDonald & Virginia Sha Lynn, his wife, and any others on our hearts.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Rock and refuge of all your creatures, receive into everlasting mercy all those who have died, especially Marsh Antonelli and Connor James Elwell.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Eternal God, the light of all who know you, come and fill our hearts with your love. Help us speak when many keep silent, help us stand for what is right when many sit in indifference. Increase our faith and charity, until your kingdom comes and heaven and earth rejoice in everlasting glory;
through your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Confession - from Shore to Shore
We confess that we have considered the earth to be our own,
believing God gave us dominion and, thus, absolute control over it.
We affirm that “the earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it,
for he has founded it on the seas and established it on the rivers.” (Psalm 24:1-2)
We repent.
We know we need to change our understanding of creation, taking our share of responsibility for its care and protection.
We believe that the Spirit, God’s recreating power, is active in us and in the world. God, Creator of all,
may humankind be freed from greed, which is destroying the earth; and may your courageous churches take up causes against the forces that threaten life. Amen

Absolution - Based on Psalm 103
God does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us by the measure of our failings.
As vast as the distance from one end of creation to another,
God’s love for us is even greater.
As far as east is from west, from greater than this distance
does God remove our sin from us.
Thanks be to God.

Doxology
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Blessing
May God bless you with a restless discomfort about easy answers,
half-truths and superficial relationships, so that you may seek truth
boldly and love deep within your heart.

May God bless you with holy anger at injustice, oppression, and
exploitation of people, so that you may tirelessly work for justice,
freedom, and peace among all people.

May God bless you with the gift of tears to shed with those who suffer
from pain, rejection, starvation, or the loss of all that they cherish, so
that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and transform
their pain into joy.

May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you really
CAN make a difference in this world, so that you are able, with God’s
grace, to do what others claim cannot be done.

And the blessing of God

Creator, Healer, and Bright Flame of Love
Be with you and remain with you always.  Amen.

Dismissal
Go in peace to be the heart of God’s love in the world.
Thanks be to God.
