HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS to David Jardine (Sep 3), Sheila Hoen (Sep 8), Erica Stolz (Sep 8), Ursula Nagel (Sep 9) and Joanna Southwell (Sep 9).
O God, our times are in your hand:
Look with favour, we pray, on your servants, David, Sheila, Erica, Ursula and Joanna, as they begin another year. Grant that they may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen their trust in your goodness all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FAREWELL  With sadness for our loss, we bid farewell to Lyle and Susan Eide, who have sold their Salt Spring home and are moving to Victoria. We will miss them!  Lyle and Susan - here is your blessing which we give you virtually!

God of the journey,
You are walking with Susan and Lyle into a new land.
You are guarding them in vulnerable moments,
You are dwelling within them as they depart from familiar places.
Be their peace in the face of distance from friends and security, in the planting of feet and heart in a strange place.
Uphold in them a deep trust in you.
Be their peace as they place their lives into the welcoming arms of your love.
Through Jesus Christ, who loves us. Amen.

WE REMEMBER, the late Edward Lacy who died 5 years ago on Sep 7 at age 90 and
Laura Faulkner who died 10 years ago on Sep 9.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
[Deut. 33.27]

Please let us know if you wish any blessings for next Sunday by emailing [email protected] Thanks!

Gathering of the Community
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.

Collect for Purity
Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open
all desires known
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
that we may perfectly love you
and worthily magnify your love
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Collect of the Day - Opening Prayers (1997) alt.
God of unity and truth,
encourage the fervent,
enlighten the doubtful and bring back the wayward.
Gather us all together in mutual love,
so that our prayer may be pleasing to you.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith: A Celtic Creed - Iona Community p 22
We believe in God above us,
maker and sustainer of all life,
of sun and moon,
of water and earth,
of male and female.

We believe in God beside us,
Jesus Christ, the word made flesh,
born of a woman, servant of the poor,
tortured and nailed to a tree.
A man who experienced sorrow, he died forsaken.
He descended into the earth to the place of death.
On the third day he rose from the tomb.
He ascended into heaven, to be everywhere present,
and His kingdom will come on earth.

We believe in God within us,
the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire,
life-giving breath of the Church,
Spirit of healing and forgiveness,
source of resurrection and of eternal life. Amen.

Prayers of the People
In this Season of Creation we pray for the world and for ourselves.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the people of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa and Thabo Makgoba, their Archbishop.
In the Anglican Church of Canada, we pray for our Primate, Linda Nicholls, for our National Indigenous Archbishop, Mark MacDonald, and for the theological colleges and training programs within the Ecclesiastical
Province of Rupert’s Land.
In our Ecclesiastical Province, we pray for the people of the Diocese of Yukon and Lesley Wheeler-Dame, their bishop.
In our Diocese, we pray for Logan, our Bishop, Ansley, our diocesan administrator, and for the people of the Parish of Pender & Saturna Islands and Ellen Willingham, their priest.
And on our Island, we pray for the people of SSI Baptist Church and Chris Saffel, their pastor.
In our own Parish, we pray this week for the households of Noreen Davies, Helani Davison, Barbara de Burgh, Bill & Lolla Devindisch and Joan Dickenson.

Let us pray for the revealing of the reign of God in the world, now & always:  Creator of earth, sea, and sky, kindle the fire of your Spirit within us that we may be bold to heal and defend the earth around us, and pour your blessing upon the people and organizations working everywhere for the good of the planet.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Light and source of life, heal and redeem the wounds of your creation, and visit the places and people who suffer from our indifference, neglect, and greed.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Giver of all good gifts, awaken us daily to our dependence upon your generosity, and make us always thankful for the abundance of your blessings, especially for the birthdays of David Jardine, Sheila Hoen, Erica Stolz, Ursula Nagel and Joanna Southwell.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Joy of human hearts, heal our human communities, especially those where your word is not heard, or where neglect, violence, greed, and warfare increase the suffering and need of people and other creatures.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Comforter of all the earth, sustain the people of this congregation who desire or need your presence and help especially Michael Overholt, Brian & Marjie Radford, Tony & Pam Brentnall, Bob & Connie Wray, Bob Brawn & Bev Unsworth, Betty Rothwell, Joan & Jim Warren, Al & Rita Robertson, Michael Pidgeon & Richard Stetson, Mark MacDonald & Virginia Sha Lynn, his wife, and any others on our hearts.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Rock and refuge of all your creatures, receive into everlasting mercy all those who have died, especially Edward Lacy and Laura Faulkner.
God, Giver of life,
Hear our prayer.

Eternal God, the light of all who know you, come and fill our hearts with your love. Help us speak when many keep silent, help us stand for what is right when many sit in indifference. Increase our faith and charity, until your kingdom comes and heaven and earth rejoice in everlasting glory;
through your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Confession - from Shore to Shore
We confess that we have considered the earth to be our own,
believing God gave us dominion and, thus, absolute control over it.
We affirm that “the earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it,
for he has founded it on the seas and established it on the rivers.” (Psalm 24:1-2)
We repent.
We know we need to change our understanding of creation, taking our share of responsibility for its care and protection.
We believe that the Spirit, God’s recreating power, is active in us and in the world. God, Creator of all,
may humankind be freed from greed, which is destroying the earth; and may your courageous churches take up causes against the forces that threaten life. Amen

Absolution - Based on Psalm 103
God does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us by the measure of our failings.
As vast as the distance from one end of creation to another,
God’s love for us is even greater.
As far as east is from west, from greater than this distance
does God remove our sin from us.
Thanks be to God.

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
May the clarity of light be yours,
May the fluency of the ocean be yours,
May the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And the blessing of God
Creator, Healer, and Bright Flame of Love
Be with you and remain with you always.

Go in peace to be the heart of God’s love in the world.
Thanks be to God.
