The Safe Church program ensures that our churches are places of safety from harm of misconduct that can occur in situations when there is an imbalance of power. The Safe Church program and a Criminal Record check are required for parish council members, paid staff, envelope secretary, children & youth workers, pastoral visitors, and all others who handle money and volunteer staff.

If you volunteer in the church, you may be asked to either take a Safe Church Training Program and/or get a Criminal Record check. These are Diocesan-wide requirements for all churches in the Diocese.

2019 SAFE CHURCH LIAISON Lynne Fraser
“The Safe Church program ensures that our churches are places of safety from the harm of misconduct that can occur in situations when there is an imbalance of power. Safe Church training is designed to:
1. Ensure our parishes are places of safety and wholeness for those who come to us seeking the love of Christ.
2. Ensure all of our volunteers and employees are aware of their own personal safety and are equipped to manage their own personal risk.”

We were not able to organize a training session this past year, but plans are underway to present the program in the near future. These sessions are particularly important as many of us have experienced situations that made us uncomfortable, either directly or indirectly.

The Safe Church Program and a Criminal Record check are required for parish council members, paid staff (including clergy), organist, choir director, envelope secretary, children and youth workers, pastoral visitors, treasurer and all others who handle money and volunteer staff including admin, grounds and janitorial.
