ALL SAINTS’ GARDEN REPORT 2019 - Mark du Plessis
Trimming of hedges and shrubs, as well as mowing of the lawns, was carried out by the new contract gardeners (Fernwood Landscaping), as The Swede Mark Nordine is no longer available to carry out this work. Dave Phillips agreed to remove the accumulated compost pile. Sue Savage was instrumental in supplying fresh soil and nutrients to the flower beds fronting on Park Drive.

The system of rotating watering assignments in the dry months of the year, instituted previously, was continued in 2019 with satisfactory results. Again, the efforts of volunteers from among the congregation allowed for maintenance pruning of hedges, shrubs and borders, in addition to usual ongoing work raking and weeding of beds. In addition, substantial pruning, by volunteers, of overgrowth on trees and some bushes surrounding the church provided the plants more room in which to grow and clearer paths for people to walk. As mentioned before, the increasing height of quite a few trees has moved much of such work beyond the resources of the clean-up crew.

Garden clean-up work party mornings take place the first Monday of each month, weather permitting, except December and January, and afford an opportunity, to those choosing to avail themselves of it, to participate in the maintenance and beautification of our grounds. Some tools are provided, there is no minimum time required and there are refreshments following. Everyone wishing to participate is welcome, and there is no particular experience or skill required. We will be happy to see you.
